Blue Hole

The Blue Hole in Wimberley has been voted one of America’s Best Swimming Holes by Travel & Leisure Magazine, and it has been named one of the top 10 swimming holes in Texas for many years.  This is one of the must-see attractions in Wimberley, Texas.

This Regional Park also has 3.5 miles of hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, an amphitheater, basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, and playgrounds. You can enjoy swimming, splashing, and rope swinging into the cool, clear waters of Cypress Creek surrounded by beautiful Cypress trees.

This beautiful, deep blue pool is spring-fed and stays a constant refreshing temperature, even in hot Texas summers. Blue Hole is not just a summer destination.  Due to the popularity of the pool, it has to be closed at times due to capacity issues.  This means an off-season visit could prove to be more peaceful.

This special park is just one mile from the best hotel in Wimberley.

Friends of Blue Hole is an organization dedicated to preserving this beautiful place.  You can become a member, and you’ll be investing in the long term future of the park and helping to sustain a natural space for conservation, learning, recreation, exploration, and renewal.  In 2003, a developer had drawn plans to shoehorn a giant 350-home subdivision around the park and build a private tourist lodge dominating the iconic swimming hole area. It would have changed Wimberley forever into a much different kind of town.  It would take a miracle to save the park, and a miracle happened.

The budget for the town of Wimberley was only $400,000, and the town had only recently been incorporated.  The Friends estimated the cost to turn the property into a real Park was $3.1 million.  That put the town about $3.1 million short.  But miracles do happen with committed people.  The miracle became a reality over the next 10 years.  Ya just gotta love it!
